Neymar believes his Barcelona teammate will sign a new contract at the Camp Nou ‘soon’ despite speculation mounting over the Argentine’s future.
Messi’s contract with the Catalans expires in 2018 with media reports in Spain suggesting he will not discuss any new contract until his current one has elapsed, but his Brazilian strike partner has dismissed the idea.
"We hope that Messi will stay in Barcelona with us," Neymar told reporters.
"I expect that he will sign a new deal soon."
The former Santos player has not had a vintage campaign so far in terms of goalscoring, netting only four goals in 13 La Liga outings this season but he insisted this was not a concern.
"I am very happy with the season I'm having so far, even with few goals," he continued.
"The goals will happen naturally. I am very happy with the assists [leads Barca with six assists], and I want to help the team in the best way I can."
