Atleti stadium move in doubt?

Atletico Madrid’s stadium move may be in jeopardy after documents submitted by the City Council on the club’s behalf contained "substantial errors".

The Community of Madrid (CAM) has not approved official modification plans for the ground at where the new Atleti stadium is being constructed -the site of the old Olympic Stadium – report El Pais.

It is essential that the site gets approval for modification so the club can gain ownership of the ground to make it private rather than public, to complete their side of the agreement signed with Madrid City Council regarding the move in 2008.

It took 19 months for the City Council to submit the documents to CAM, but they have been returned within the space of ten days to throw the proposed move into doubt, although the Council are confident they can resend the corrected documents (with alterations to the area of the land among the corrections) and gain approval before the new year.

However, it is reported by AS that Atleti have now been left with no room for errors as any approval could take up to four months and the possibility remains they might be prevented from moving into the stadium for the start of the new campaign.

Earlier this month, the club announced the new stadium would be called Estadio Wanda-Metropolitano.
