Simeone: I can still renew!

Diego Simeone has accused the Press of deciding that he will leave Atletico Madrid for him. “I can still renew – or is it already written that I can’t?”

Simeone’s decision to cut his contract so that it expires at the end of next season after two lost Champions League finals, plus poor domestic form this season, have led many to speculate that the Coach will leave Atleti for a return to Inter.

“My Press conference after the final in Milan? I was super transparent, like I try to be 99 percent of the time. That’s how I see myself,” he told BeIN Sports.

“If you see me with a pecular face, I’m feeling peculiar, and if you see me happy, I’m happy. I don’t have many faces.

“I was very transparent. It was difficult after the finals we lost. We lost two finals, one in two minutes and another on penalties.

“It was difficult and wasn’t easy. The first thing that came out was the spontaneity of me saying I had to think about how I’d continue transmitting strength and energy to these guys so that they’d continue giving me what they’d given me.

“My contract was a consequence of what I thought was best for Atletico Madrid. Everyone keeps saying that I may leave in a year-and-a-half.

“People can think what they like, but I can still renew my contract – or is it already written that I can’t renew again?

“Journalists are very quick to create controversy, that’s fine, you have to accept it and, possibly, you have to answer the best you can so these controversies don’t happen.

“My sister was asked a question in Italy, ‘do you think your brother could ever manage Inter?’, and she said: "I think one day he will, I don’t see anything weird about it.’

“My son was asked about it in Genoa, and he said, ‘I believe that someday he will.’

“I’ve decided not to speak about it anymore because what’s said from now on, it’s up to how people want to interpret it. The results of my team haven’t been good enough.

“I’m clear with the Atletico Madrid fans in that I frame situations with facts. Words come and go, but facts determine people. When I leave, it’s going to be for the good of the club.”
