Atletico Madrid midfielder Koke is confident that manager Diego Simeone will remain at the club next season despite speculation over his future.

Simeone’s future at Los Rojiblancos has been under great scrutiny after reducing his contract by two years, indifferent league form and comments to the press which suggests he may manage Inter Milan one day in the future.

"The media always asks the same question, if he will continue…it seems as though you want to get rid of Cholo (Simeone), he has a contract and it seems that his intention is to respect it,” Koke told AS.

"We are well and working hard, we've been doing the same things for five years now.

“Teams go through spells and we are working hard. We've had a fantastic 2016 and we hope 2017 will be even better.

"We have been unlucky; we've played good games but have had no luck. There is still a long way to go and we are not in a bad position.

"We need to be more consistent in La Liga, something we have been in the Champions League. Our aim is to be third but if we finish higher, all the better."
