Simeone: Dreams & reality different

Diego Simeone admits while he “dreams” of taking Atletico Madrid to their new stadium, “reality” is a different proposition.

Atleti host Las Palmas on Saturday after a run of just one win in their last five League games, which has left the side in sixth place and some 12 points behind arch-rivals Real Madrid.

More questions have been asked of Simeone’s long-term future at the helm as a result, and the Argentine was cryptic when asked about what the future held for him.

“The lads always work well, they’re very competitive and looking for their best form,” the Coach said at a Press conference.

“That hasn’t changed this week. Hopefully we can prove it on the pitch with facts and take the game wherever we want.

“It’s normal to be criticised. We have the match against Las Palmas in mind and our objectives that were set at the beginning of the season.

“For this, we have to work when the results are good and when the results are bad. We’re on the quest to find consistency because I believe that in these months, we’ve had little of it.

“My future? I have a contract, but my dream is to do the best for the team and club. I have the feeling that you always have to tell people that things seem beautiful.

“I won’t change. Everything I do and will do is with the good of the club in mind. The dream of entering the new stadium is there, but reality is the present.

“Support from the players? It’s always been reciprocal, life gives me things and I give things back.

“We’ve always worked that way, I’m focused on Saturday’s game, honestly. Whatever people say or think affects me very little.

“What interests me is that we respond to what we were and what we are. Las Palmas play very good football, they have no fear and that makes them brave against any team.

“My personal status? I’m too preoccupied with making sure the team improve and have regularity.

“We started the season with imbalances. Then we improved and now we’ve fallen back on them.

“We have to solve them. Consistency needs results but also a unanimous involvement like the players have always had. I don’t stop to observe opinions.

“Moya? He’s a player with experience and history in Spanish football, who comes from playing in the Copa, and that will have given him confidence and peace of mind to face this new situation. We hope he’ll do as he’s always done.”
