‘Villarreal must emulate home form’

Fran Escriba has warned Villarreal that they must emulate their home form on the road ahead of Saturday’s trip to Sporting Gijon in La Liga.

Villarreal have dropped points in just two of their eight home games in the League this season, in stark contrast to only one away win in seven, and Escriba admits his side need to do better on their travels, starting at Sporting.

“We have to do our good work at El Madrigal away from home and take a leap forward in this regard,” the Coach said at a Press conference.

“We’ve managed to achieve good results on our travels, but we have to repeat them.

“We hope that in Gijon, we can do the same and that we give a good account of ourselves in this match.

“The important thing is to be more aggressive, like we are at home, and look for the goal more. We’ve talked about it in the dressing room and we will give it a go in this match.

“Sporting? Now it seems that they’ve changed system and their last game at home was very good.

“We’ll see how they play because they need to pick up points, and if they win they’d have a lot of morale going into the winter break.

“We’re going to a very tight stadium, one of the most difficult in the League, but at the same time, the atmosphere there is good.

“It’ll be a very difficult game, but our intention is to win and end the year well.”
