Video tech ‘won’t last long’ – Modric

Real Madrid star Luka Modric doesn’t believe video technology will ‘continue for very long’ and he believes it creates too much confusion.

The Croatian was interviewed by FIFA immediately after his side progressed to the final of the Club World Cup with a 2-0 victory over Club America, with his side’s second goal coming in stoppage time but needing to be verified by video technology due to goalscorer Cristiano Ronaldo potentially being offside.

"Video assistance is something new and to be honest, I don’t really like it as I think it creates a lot of confusion,” explained Modric.

"We had a meeting with the referees the other day regarding video technology, but I did not listen too much as I don't expect it to continue for very long.

"We are pleased with the result, we started a little loose but won and we are now in the final which is the most important thing."

The interview was promptly cut short after the 31-year-old’s admission which is not likely to have please FIFA who are trialing the equipment at the tournament, first called into action to award a penalty to Kashima Antlers in their semi-final win on Wednesday.

Real Madrid will now play Japanese side Kashima Antlers in Sunday’s final of the competition.
