Atletico Madrid captain Gabi has blamed individual errors for his side’s three-goal loss at Villarreal who the Rojiblancos ‘dominated’ for long spells.
Goals from Manuel Trigueros, Jonathan dos Santos and Roberto Soriano secured a big win for Fran Escriba’s side with Atletico’s misery compounded by injuries to goalkeeper Jan Oblak and Tiago.
"I don't think that Villarreal were better than us, we dominated the second half," Gabi told beIN Sports.
"But In the end when you make mistakes you pay for it.
"We gave our everything and we were always in it, but their goals came through individual mistakes.
"Obviously we have to improve. And to be up near the top [of the table] we will have to improve a lot."
The defeat was Diego Simeone’s side fourth in their last seven league games and having won only one of their last five in the league, they have slipped to sixth, two places below Villarreal.
