Filipe Luis sidelined with thigh injured

Atletico Madrid left-back Filipe Luis has been ruled out of action with a thigh injury, it has been confirmed by the club.

The former Chelsea defender sustained the injury in a training session on Wednesday and whilst it has not yet been confirmed how long he will be ruled out for, it will come as a blow to Diego Simeone who has started the Brazilian in 18 of the club’s 20 matches this campaign.

"Filipe Luis suffers a grade II muscle injury of the semimembranosus muscle of the back of the left thigh," an Atletico statement read.

"Our player, who had to leave this Wednesday's training due to discomfort, underwent medical tests this Thursday in the Fremap Majadahonda Clinic.

"The Brazilian international will begin a physical therapy treatment with alternative training. He is pending evolution."

The 31-year-old rejoined Los Rojiblancos in 2015 after a year at Stamford Bridge, where he failed to become a regular starter.
