Steven N’Zonzi expressed his delight at Sevilla’s game plan paying off away at Olympique Lyonnais as they qualified for the last 16 of the Champions League.
The French midfielder won the Europa League with the Andalucians in his first season at Estadio Sanchez Pizjuan but now he has set his sights on advancing yet further in the elite competition.
"We are very happy even though we did not win because we are through to the next round, which was the most important thing for us," N’Zonzi explained on BeIN Sports after the game.
"It's very important, we knew that here was not going to be easy against a really strong team that could qualify, but our game plan worked very well and we think we carried it out effectively.
“The most important thing is the club and the fans are happy – so that makes us happy.
"We have to defend very well, away from home is never easy at this level against so many high-quality players. Today was such an important match but our objectives are achieved."
