Escriba unhappy with Leganes draw

Fran Escriba made it clear he was “not happy” after Villarreal’s 0-0 draw with Leganes, taking particular aim at his forwards’ lack of invention.

Villarreal failed to capitalise on Sevilla and Atletico Madrid’s disappointing results at Leganes, instead extending their winless run in La Liga to three matches.

“While winning is very difficult, I’m not happy because we didn’t create many chances,” the Coach said after the game.

“On the positive side, it’s true that it wasn’t a particularly fun spectacle, although in the second half we clearly improved.

“The forwards ultimately have to contribute. Just like defending is a team issue, so is attacking.

“They have to do more. It’s not so much taking your chances but rather creating them, and we created little.”

Escriba then turned his attentions to Villarreal’s do-or-die Europa League clash with Steaua Bucharest on Thursday.

“The match against Steaua is key,” he added.

“It’s very important that the fans help us, but if we go and believe in [progressing], everything will calm down a bit and we’ll be able to see things more positively.

“It’s a 90-minute match to be won, but Steaua also have needs of their own, so we must be patient, knowing that we can create chances and score.

“Still, it’s a game not to make mistakes in, especially in a defensive sense.”
