Gus Poyet could be announced as the new boss of Chinese club Shanghai Shenhua, less than three weeks after his dismissal by Real Betis.
The club parted ways with experienced Spanish coach Gregorio Manzano earlier this month and include former European stars Demba Ba, Obafemi Martins and Fredy Guarin amongst their playing staff.
48-year-old Poyet was sacked by Los Verdiblancos earlier this month after a poor start to the season with only three wins from eleven matches and he was replaced by former Deportivo La Coruna coach Victor Sanchez del Amo, but reports in China now say he will be appointed at Shenhua.
The Uruguayan previously managed Brighton, Sunderland and AEK Athens, and it is expected he would take coaching staff Mauricio Taricco and Charlie Oatway with him to Shanghai.
