Sampaoli: We will play to win

Sevilla boss Jorge Sampaoli has dismissed the idea his side will play for a draw against Juventus in order to qualify for the next stage of the Champions League.

A point would suffice for the Europa League winners to qualify for the last 16 for the first time in six years but their Argentine coach has explained his side will play to win.

“Playing against a team of Juventus’ quality and looking for a draw, would be crazy,” Sampaoli told a pre-match press conference.

“Juventus are a very strong side, one of the strongest in Europe and we’ll try to impose our own game and try to win.

“Juve will have to play the final game against a team which is already eliminated, so this match is not as decisive for them.

“If we do lose tomorrow then we’d be in a difficult situation, we’d have to try and qualify in Lyon whereas if Juventus lose tomorrow they can still quality against Dinamo.

“In fact, Juventus could face this match with more calmness.

“In Turin we played differently – we used Franco Vazquez as a false nine, we were able to neutralise the Juventus attack though we didn’t attack much ourselves, but at home it must be different.”
