Espanyol didn’t deserve win – Pellegrino

Alaves boss Mauricio Pellegrino has bemoaned his side’s home defeat at the hands of Espanyol on Sunday, believing the visitors did not deserve to win the game.

Gerard Moreno’s header nine minutes from time was enough to settle the closely-fought encounter, less than two minutes after the striker had seen his penalty saved by Alaves goalkeeper Fernando Pacheco.

“We leave with the harrowing fact that Espanyol did very little to win the game,” lamented Pellegrino.

“They did not deserve the three points and we did everything we could, but sometimes that’s football and we have to move on.

“It was a very close match but I thought we controlled the game well and we particularly impressive in the first twenty minutes of both halves.

“We weren’t clinical enough or lucky enough in the final third and the only real difference was that they could take advantage of late set pieces.”
