Sampaoli pride at manager award

Jorge Sampaoli has spoken of his pride at scooping La Liga’s October Manager of the Month award and dedicated the win to his children and the Sevilla fans.

The Argentine guided Los Rojiblancos to wins over Alaves, Leganes and Atletico Madrid, while they were held at Sporting Gijon in a month which saw them climb to second in the league.

"I'm very proud because I've just arrived and having so many coaches who are capable, to win this award gives me joy," Sampaoli, who guided Chile to Copa America glory in 2015, is quoted as saying by Marca.

"I dedicate the award to my children who follow me in the distance and to the Sevilla fans who support us so much.

"It's always easier to believe in a project when you start with wins, not just for the players but also for the fans.”

The Sevilla job is the 56-year-old’s first in Europe, having replaced Unai Emery in the summer.

Sevilla Atletico – the youth side of the club – also saw their boss, Diego Martinez, win the Segunda manager of the month for October in a double for the club.
