Comeback shows pride – Herrera

Ander Herrera has heaped praise on his international teammates for showing pride and character to earn a late comeback draw against England.

The Manchester United midfielder came off the bench in the 56th minute to replace Thiago Alcantara to win his first cap for Spain, and helped propel his side to rescuing a draw thanks to late goals from fellow debutant Iago Aspas and Isco.

"We will take pride from this performance and fightback, that showed our footballing ability and character," explained the 27-year-old after the match.

"We finished the game very strongly and whilst it was important to beat Macedonia (on Saturday), tonight was showed our fighting spirit.

"Another team would have surrendered but we did not give up and that shows our quality as a team, it shows the togetherness of our group.

"Wembley is the best stage to debut, it was so exciting and an honour to represent my country…I will have to frame the shirt!"
