Griezmann foot not broken

Atletico Madrid have confirmed that striker Antoine Griezmann did not suffer a broken foot whilst playing for France on Friday.

The 25-year-old has withdrawn from the French squad to face the Ivory Coast after coming off during the World Cup qualifier, but medical tests confirmed the X-rays as negative for showing any fractures.

The striker now faces a race to be fit ahead of Los Rojiblancos' derby with Real Madrid on Saturday.

"In the X-ray that was completed [on Saturday], an injury to the bone was ruled out, and the diagnosis indicates that he has suffered a trauma with a hematoma on the left foot," read an Atletico statement.

"Both the medical services of the France national team and those of Atletico Madrid have agreed for the Frenchman to return to Madrid, where he has already been placed in the hands of our physiotherapists.

"During the day on Monday, he will continue with a new course of treatment and his recovery will continue to be assessed."

The former La Real striker told Marca after the game that he would do everything he could to be fit before next weekend.

"It's not too serious," he confirmed.

"But I have to work morning, afternoon and night to be ready."
