Messi booking upheld

Barcelona have failed in their appeal to have Lionel Messi's yellow card picked up against Sevilla on Sunday overturned.

The Argentine picked up the booking late in the game for apparent time-wasting, but the Catalans felt this was incorrect as he had been fouled by Steven N'Zonzi and his boot had become too damaged to put back on, hence needing to find a replacement.

The Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) have however upheld the decision while Mundo Deportivo now say that Barca will now take their appeal to the Appeals Committee, which meets on Thursdays.

It was the 29-year-old's third booking of the season, while Luis Suarez will miss the next match against Malaga after collecting five bookings and Neymar is on four – running the risk of being suspended for El Clasico.
