Barcelona defender Samuel Umtiti has described team-mate Lionel Messi as ‘an extraterrestrial’ and believes he stands a great chance of winning the Ballon d’Or.
The 22-year-old joined the Catalan club this summer from Olympique Lyonnais and has made ten appearances, many in the absence of Gerard Pique.
“I work with Lionel Messi and it’s true that he is an extraterrestrial – it’s amazing what he can do,” explained Umtiti at a press conference.
“Also, I’d like to see Griezmann (French international team-mate) on the podium, but it will be very tough as there is such great competition.
“I think the three (Messi, Ronaldo, Griezmann) have all had great years and deserve a lot of credit.
“Like everyone else I’ll wait for the results but I can’t tell you who will be first, second or third.”
