Ronaldo: Awards motivate me

Cristiano Ronaldo was crowned Marca's La Liga player of 2015-16 and then confirmed that awards motivate him to keep improving.

The 31-year-old put pen to paper on a new Real Madrid contract earlier on Monday before attending the Florida Retiro hall where he scooped the night's main prize of the Alfredo Di Stefano Award after scoring 35 goals and providing 11 assists last season.

"The 2015-16 season was filled with many emotions with the Champions League and the European Championship," Ronaldo told the audience upon being presented the award in Madrid.

"Today has also been a very special day with my contract renewal and a prize from MARCA. What else I can ask for?

"I'm very happy. This motivates me to keep working and get better in the next few years."

Luis Suarez, the only player to outscore the Portuguese in La Liga in 2015-16, was awarded the Pichichi trophy after netting 40 times and helping to propel Barcelona to league glory, although he was the only Blaugrana player to be awarded a prize.

Atletico Madrid scooped two awards as manager Diego Simeone received the Miguel Munoz Coach of the Year prize and goalkeeper Jan Oblak took the Zamora trophy for conceding the lowest number of goals.
