Barca appeal Messi booking

Barcelona have confirmed they will appeal the yellow card handed out to Lionel Messi in the second half of Sunday night's match against Sevilla.

Referee Santiago Jaime Latre booked the Argentine for wasting for time over putting his boot back on after being brought down by Steven N'Zonzi, with Messi complaining about the final and remonstrating with the officials before being ordered off the pitch to replace his shoe.

"The club have presented an appeal against the yellow card that Leo Messi received on Sunday in the match against Sevilla at the Sanchez Pizjuan, which Barca won 2-1 thanks to a goal from the Argentine," read a club statement.

Barca boss Luis Enrique had criticised the decision in the post-match press conference, believing that the 29-year-old – who also scored and assisted in the match – needed time to go and replace his damaged shoe.
