Barca didn’t meet Gameiro price – Monchi

Sevilla sporting director Monchi has revealed Barcelona did not come close to meeting Kevin Gameiro's value, despite interest over summer.

Ahead of Los Rojiblancos league clash with the Spanish champions on Sunday, he also explained that Luciano Vietto rejected the Catalans in favour of first-team football, while there has no been no discussions between the clubs for either Aleix Vidal or Mariano.

"Barcelona sent agents to discuss Kevin Gameiro, but they did not come close to meeting our valuation of the striker," explained the 48-year-old on El Club de la mitjanit.

"Our intention was never to sell the player, but Atletico met the clause and he agreed to go.

"Vietto said no to Barca, which is very difficult but he needed regular first-team football and that's why he came to Sevilla.

"Barcelona never asked for Mariano, they spoke to us after newspaper reports to ask if we or the player knew anything, but it was totally false.

"Aleix Vidal? I do not like to judge a situation without knowing all the arguments – he was always consistent and decisive, and happy, when with us."
