Alexis accused of tax evasion

Barcelona's Public Prosecutor has opened investigations into Arsenal star Alexis Sanchez's tax returns whilst he lived in Spain.

El Periodico reports of claims that the Chilean attacker defrauded the Inland Revenue of €983,443 during his time in the Catalan capital between 2011 and 2014.

Prosecutor Miguel Ángel Pérez de Gregorio stated that the player failed to include any income from the transfer of his image rights in his annual tax declaration in 2012 and 2013.

Sánchez stands accused of "actively withholding" taxes due on his image rights income because he "simulated the transfer of those rights" to a Numidia Trading, am offshore company based in Malta.

The report continues that the 27-year-old's contract with Barcelona stated he was the sole owner of his image rights, even though he had previously transferred them to Alsan in 2008 and Numidia in 2011.
