Wass: Ajax game important

Celta Vigo midfielder Daniel Wass has stressed the importance of Thursday’s Europa League game with Ajax at the Amsterdam Arena.

Victory in Holland would see the Galicians leapfrog their opponents, who are two points clear at the top of Group G, and Wass believes taking all three points would place Celta in a very advantageous position.

“This is a very important game for us as we’ll be playing in a great stadium against a very good team,” the Dane told a Press conference.

“I don’t know who will play from the start, that’s a decision for the Coach, but it’s obvious that if we win we will be in a very good situation.”

Wass, scorer of his team’s first goal in the 3-3 draw with Las Palmas at the weekend, also insisted the squad is focused on the Ajax clash despite welcoming Valencia to Balaidos next Sunday.

“The first game is on Thursday, so that’s what we’ll concentrate on, and we’ll start thinking about Sunday’s game from Friday onwards.

“Last weekend we were disappointed to only draw in Gran Canaria after being 3-0 up at the break, but I suppose a point is better than none.

“Las Palmas are a tough side and it’s really difficult to take anything from there.”
