Osasuna suffer Digard blow

Struggling Osasuna have been rocked by the news that midfielder Didier Digard will be sidelined for the next six to eight months.

The experienced Frenchman, brought in on loan from Real Betis in the summer, suffered a tear of the anterior cruciate ligament and medial meniscus in his right knee against Athletic Bilbao on Sunday, and the club’s worst fears have now been confirmed.

Digard was injured when turning in the penalty area as he tried to win the ball off Iker Muniain and, although he returned to the pitch and attempted to continue, had to be replaced on 32 minutes.

The 30-year-old has made just three La Liga appearances for the Pamplona outfit and has only just forced his way into boss Martin Monreal’s plans after missing a month of the season, having picked up a calf muscle strain in early September.
