‘Athletic set bar very high, but…’

Ernesto Valverde insists Athletic Bilbao “set the bar very high” in their 1-1 draw with Osasuna on Sunday but admits it was “a missed opportunity”.

“Benat? It’s not the same muscle that he injured before, but the same area. [The damage] remains to be seen,” the Coach said after the game.

“We set the bar very high and Osasuna showed to have come with a very well-learned lesson.

“The game was open, which is something we didn’t want. We missed an opportunity to pick up three points, but the season is long and you have to learn from games like this.

“We must recognise the courage that Osasuna played with from the start, but if we took some of the very clear chances we had at the end…

“I always ask Muniain for his game to be effective. He’s a player that can be taken advantage of if he gets game. At the moment, we’re insisting that he has to be more decisive.

“Williams? He would’ve scored the chance that he had at the end of the game last season, but it’s only a matter of confidence.

“I don’t want to get hung up on his run without a goal. I’ve talked about it with him.”
