Poyet slams ‘difficult’ Betis fans

Gus Poyet has hit out at Real Betis fans for making it “difficult” for his side to play at the Benito Villamarin after Sunday’s 1-0 defeat to Espanyol in La Liga.

Diego Reyes scored the only goal of the game to ramp up the pressure on Poyet and prompt Betis supporters to call for his head during the match, but the Uruguayan made it clear he would not change his approach.

“When a team don’t win in front of their fans, it’s obvious that the fans won’t be happy,” the Coach said after the final whistle.

“It’s not new. It happened to [Pepe] Mel and Coaches before him. We can’t do anything but coach the team and win games. From there, it is what it is.

“I am who I am, if they want a fake Coach then they can have one, but on the day I leave, I’ll leave as a man, one that’s honest, polite and not fake.

“My idea before starting this job was for us to enjoy playing here, but it’s becoming difficult. It’s getting difficult to play in front of these fans.”
