Sampaoli: Result wasn’t fair

Jorge Sampaoli rued “football depriving Sevilla of justice” in their 1-1 draw with Sporting Gijon on Saturday.

Sevilla failed to take top spot in La Liga as Moi Gomez’s goal cancelled out the opener from Luciano Vietto, in a match overshadowed by potentially a serious injury to Samir Nasri, and Sampaoli was disappointed his side failed to be more “ruthless” in their approach.

“Unfortunately we let go of a game that we deserved more from,” the Coach said after the game.

“We had many chances but weren’t ruthless enough. Our opponents were in submission, but sometimes football deprives you of justice, and that was the case today.

“They’re a competitive and enthusiastic team that made life difficult for us in the first half but were frankly overwhelmed by Sevilla in the second.

“Nasri? The medical staff must evaluate him first and find out what he has [injured]. I haven’t spoken to him.

“The best players in the world are here, so you pay for making the slightest mistake.”
