Antoine Griezmann was named La Liga's best player of last season on a night of various triumphs for Atletico Madrid at the league's awards ceremony.
The Frenchman was not present at the event – which was held in Valencia on Monday night – but was announced as the winner ahead of a host of star names from Barcelona and Real Madrid.
It was a great night for Atletico as Diego Simeone won coach of the year, Jan Oblak was crowned goalkeeper of the year and Diego Godin selected as the best defender.
Barcelona's Lionel Messi was named the best attacker, Madrid's Modric the best midfielder while Marco Asensio – now back at Los Blancos after a season-long loan at Espanyol – was named the 'breakthrough of the year'.
Team captains voted for the best player in each position, while data analysis was used to find the best player.
"It is a privilege and honour to be here to accept this award, which wouldn't have been possible without the help of my colleagues," beamed Godin.
Los Rojiblancos finished third in last season's league table behind winners Barca and runners-up Madrid.
