Alcaraz rues Granada deficit

Lucas Alcaraz rued Granada falling five points adrift in La Liga but was pleased with the “attitude, effort and solidarity” they showed against Sporting Gijon.

Granada ended a run of four straight defeats in their 0-0 draw with Sporting on Saturday but would remain without a win after nine games, leaving Alcaraz’s side deep in relegation trouble, five points adrift at the bottom.

“The worst thing is that we’ve created such a deficit, which is something that any modest team always acknowledges. In this situation, it’s not a satisfactory result,” the Coach said after the match.

“It was a game with few chances where we had difficulty, Sporting found things more comfortable. We improved defensively but had problems on the ball, we struggled to cause problems.

“Still, the fans can’t accuse us of lacking attitude, effort and solidarity. They must continue to support and be with the players, and from there the team go forward.

“The burden is very big, but we must get past this acute phase of the calendar and have a great second half of the season. We have to think that the road is much longer.

“Carcela’s exclusion? The team are above any one player and we need players who are involved 100 percent. Uche Agbo was the best of the 22 players that were on the pitch.”
