Pep Guardiola believes Claudio Bravo’s red card was the turning point in Manchester City’s 4-0 defeat in Camp Nou on Wednesday night.

The goalkeeper was sent-off for handling the ball outside his area with the score at 1-0 in the 53rd minute, before Barcelona went on to win the game 4-0, despite being reduced to ten men themselves with Jeremy Mathieu’s red card.

“It’s difficult to play against Barcelona with eleven players and with ten the game was over,” explained Guardiola.

“Until (the red card) the game was open – we created many chances and should have scored at least one or two goals.

“This is only October, it’s not a semi-final or a final so we have time to recover and move on to the next game, we now have to win two games from three to qualify from this really tough group.

“Of course when you realise the game was 4-0 you think…wow.

“But the situation is we are a new club and as a club we are still getting to know each other.

“It’s a club that was not in Europe for 35 years, so we’ve come here and played with huge personality.”
