Suarez to trigger transfer clause?

Barcelona could reportedly have to pay Manchester City an additional €800,000 if Denis Suarez features against his former club on Wednesday night.

The Catalans paid City €1.6m to sign Suarez in 2013 and despite the midfielder leaving the club to join Villarreal permanently last summer – before returning to Camp Nou – the original terms of that first deal still stand and it includes a clause that after 10 first-team games for Barca, the club will have to shell out the first of ten €800,000 installments to the Citizens.

Reports in AS, Mundo Deportivo and Diario Sport all suggest that this could cost Luis Enrique's side a windfall.

The Blaugrana's spokesman Josep Vives confirmed the conditions of the deal were still in place when Barca signed the 22-year-old this summer and therefore if he makes 100 or more appearances for the LaLiga champions, it could cost them up to €13.65m.

The former Sevilla midfielder is an unlikely starter on Wednesday, but could feature from the bench.
