Pique wants Barca presidency

Gerard Pique has confirmed that he would like to be president of Barcelona after he retires, but he has no management ambitions.

The 29-year-old would have to have a two-year spell away from the club after his retirement if this were to happen due to the club’s rules and Diario Sport calculated that 2027 would be the earliest possible date this could happen, due to the six-year presidential terms.

"Yes, when I say things I mean them. I want to be president of Barca. It's a step I'd like to take when I retire,” Pique told TV3.

"I don't see myself as a manager. I don't think I would enjoy it as much.

"As a president I could do really well for this club, because it's what I am passionate about. My playing career will [one day] come to an end and the step I'd like to take is to become Barcelona president.

"I've always said I'd like to retire at Barca, but it would be an attractive option for a few years," he said about a potential move to Major League Soccer last month. "As long as I have the appetite to continue playing football."
