Barca’s Iniesta job for life

FC Barcelona are planning on extending Andres Iniesta's contract and are planning to keep the midfielder in some capacity after he retires.

Iniesta's contract with the club will expire in June 2018 but he already reiterated his desire to retire at the club and by that time he will be a 34-year-old, but both the club and the midfielder are keen on renewing the deal so he finishes his career at Camp Nou.

"You'll have to ask the directors about my turn to renew, I want to finish my career here," said the midfielder in an interview with Cadena COPE.

Sport report that both parties are relaxed about a new deal, that will be discussed in the new year but they go further in saying that whilst the club's policies is only to renew contracts by one year at a time at that age, they would be willing to make Iniesta the first ever exception, such is his status at the club.

Furthermore, Barca want to ensure that after his retirement the midfielder will remain at the club in a playing or ambassadorial capacity, ideally viewing him as a coach with the first team or in La Masia – the youth system of which he was a graduate.
