Tebas re-elected to run La Liga

La Liga have provisionally re-elected Javier Tebas to a second four-year term as president of the league, it has been announced.

Tebas run to the post was unopposed after his sole opponent Alex Aranzabal withdrew his proposed candidacy on Tuesday – citing lack of support due to the rules and regulations of the voting process – a day before the candidates had to officially register their running.

La Liga have announced that as the 54-year-old self-confessed Real Madrid fan is the only candidate, he will be elected to lead La Liga for the next four years.

The lawyer was first elected as president of the league in 2013, when he also ran unopposed, and called this election a year early in what was criticised as a cynical move to catch any potential opponents off-guard and not allowing them sufficient time to draw the support necessary to challenge him.

The Spanish league is a body composing of all 42 clubs in the top two tiers in Spanish football.
