Mario Suarez believes Valencia “have the foundations to be like” Atletico Madrid, who are “an example of how to compete with the big boys”.
Valencia have won both of their two games under caretaker Voro after losing all four of their opening fixtures, and next up for Los Che are Atleti – a former club of their summer signing Suarez.
“They’ve been together for five years, with the same coaching staff and the idea of how to work,” the midfielder told Marca.
“They play by memory, almost machine-like, and change a few players from one season to another.
“We, on the other hand, have made many changes this summer and adopted the idea of a Coach who is no longer here.
“Then came in Voro and now comes another … We have to take giant steps to match Atletico.
“What we have to do is match them in intensity and be aggressive. We have, but we must be more compact.
“Stability on the bench of a club is basic, but you have to take small steps and train with intensity.
“That’s what gives you the results. When you don’t change everything and things are going well, the whole world values you more, you get better contracts and no-one wants to leave.
“Atletico are an example of how to compete with the big boys. You have to give everything and be humble every day.
“We have the foundations to be like them. We’re the youngest in the League.”
