‘Delighted’ Enrique hails Arda

A “delighted” Luis Enrique hailed Arda Turan for finally coming up trumps as a Barcelona player after his goal at Borussia Monchengladbach on Wednesday.

Arda scored his fifth goal of the season as his equaliser sent Barca on their way to a 2-1 Champions League victory, just months after the midfielder was written off and linked with an escape route to China.

“It’s clear that this group will be very tight because there are no weak teams,” the Coach said after the game.

“We’re doing our homework. Our objective to be first in the group, but we’re not thinking about it yet.

“I’m delighted with Arda Turan. He’s proving the level we all know him to be at this season and helping the team a lot, but it was something we knew when we signed him.

“Pique’s playing at a high level. He’s a vital and key player for us.

“I sincerely believe the victory was fair. It wasn’t easy to win here because I want to remember that they went 18 straight games without losing [at home], with 11 straight wins, so you can see how difficult it is to win here.

“In the second half, we were better positioned on the pitch than in the first. In the first half, we expected them to come out pressing, but they didn’t.

“They played deeper and that hampered our work because they didn’t play as they usually would at home.

“Our strategy also lets us win games, so clearly Unzue’s blackboard worked liked a charm.

“We created a total of seven or eight chances, but they were able to launch counterattacks, especially in their goal.”
