Atleti’s Augusto vows comeback

Atletico Madrid midfielder Augusto Fernandez has vowed to come back stronger after undergoing knee surgery.

The Argentine midfielder may not return to action this season after undergoing surgery on a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee, with the 30-year-old forecast to miss at least seven months of action whilst he recuperates.

"I will return with more determination than ever," a defiant Fernandez insisted.

"I've received so many well wishes and I'm grateful for the support I've been getting."

Fernandez joined Atletico from Celta Vigo in January 2015 and a club statement confirmed there were 'no complications with the procedure' and Diego Simeone has confirmed everybody at the club will support him over the coming months.

"He knows that the group is with him as he begins his recovery – we will wait for him and we needed him," the Argentine boss said.

"His teammates love him and we hope to have him back playing before the end of the season."
