Gus Poyet hailed Real Betis’ fans for making the difference with their support during Saturday’s 1-0 win against Malaga in La Liga.
Joaquin Sanchez’s header midway through the first half was enough to secure Betis their first home success of the season, but Poyet was keen to single out the fans after they made the players “very relaxed”.
“It cost us a lot. There was little difference between the teams. The tension of the need to win at home may have influenced us,” the Coach said after the game.
“We suffered a bit more than necessary, but it was instrumental in what happened between the team and fans.
“When we’re together, the players feel it and can give that final effort I’m happy for the fans and team.
“Here I felt what I said when I arrived. I would’ve liked to play with these fans. After drawing two games at home, we needed a victory.
“The players were very relaxed. It gives us tranquillity to have won, plus there are now two or three days of normality to rest.”
