Valencia want Marcelino – reports

Valencia are seeking to clarify is former Villarreal boss Marcelino would be given clearance by the authorities to take over at the Mestalla.

Pako Ayestaran was dismissed by the club on Tuesday, and they have now written to the Royal Federation of Spanish Football (RFEF) asking if Marcelino is eligible to coach the club as it is unclear if he has 'coached' Villarreal this season, report Super Deporte.

Los Che are said to want to give the vacant position Marcelino – who was surprisingly sacked by the Yellow Submarine weeks before the new season started.

Salvador Gonzalez 'Voro' has been given the job on a temporary basis, but the club are seeking to find a permanent successor to Ayestaran as swiftly as possible and have made the 51-year-old their preferred target.

In a poll carried out by Super Deporte, 48% of readers wanted Marcelino to be given the job ahead of everybody else, while AS reports the coach has enquired personally to the RFEF to seek clarification about his eligibility.

The rules state that the season starts on 1st July, and that a manager can not coach more than one Spanish side during the campaign. However, Marcelino reportedly remains optimistic that he would be given a green light due to not having coached Villarreal in any official matches this season.
