Iniesta: I’d reject Pep to retire at Barca

Andres Iniesta has claimed that not even Pep Guardiola could persuade him to leave Barcelona before he retires.

Iniesta's current deal at Camp Nou expires in 2018 and he is hopeful of signing a new long-term deal with the club, whom he wants to see out the remainder of his career with.

"I want to finish my career at Barcelona as I'm enjoying every moment," the midfielder told Cope.

"On a personal level I'm very happy and believe I'm playing well, so whatever will come will come.

"We will need to discuss with the board about any new contract, but for now I am not concerning myself with that."

When questioned about what he would say if former Barca boss Guardiola asked him to join Manchester City, the playmaker gave a forthright response.

"I think Guardiola already knows what I think and what I want, my wish is to finish my career in Barcelona," he continued.

"I would pick up the phone because he was my coach and is my friend, I learnt a lot under Pep but now Luis Enrique is the best manager for me because he is our coach."

The 32-year-old once again proved his worth on Wednesday night – his pinpoint cross was headed home by Ivan Rakitic and it was Iniesta's 392nd league appearance for the club, drawing level with Carlos Puyol and now only Xavi (505) has more.
