Sampaoli: Betis didn’t want to play

Sevilla coach Jorge Sampaoli has criticised Real Betis for 'not wanting to play' against his side during the Seville derby.

Sampaoli told the media that his side fully deserved the victory as they had been the only side to try and win the game, despite the visitors having an equalising goal controversially disallowed two minutes after Gabriel Mercado's decisive headed goal.

"Betis did not try to play against us," the Argentine coach said after the game.

"In the first half we pinned them back in their own half and generated seven times the amount of chances, and the second half was similar. We were constantly looking towards the opponent's goal looking to score.

"Throughout the game we created twelve or thirteen dangerous opportunities, we were dominant.

"We wanted to play and the opponent didn't, so that ensured the game might not have had a lot of goals."

Sampaoli finished his press conference by saying that he 'didn't speak of officials' but 'Sevilla won and won clearly'.
