Sampaoli ‘angry’ after Eibar draw

Jorge Sampaoli was “angry” with Sevilla “dropping two points” after their 1-1 draw with Eibar in La Liga on Saturday.

Pedro Leon rescued an unlikely point for Eibar, who were down to 10 men for the entire second half and incurred another red card with four minutes remaining, leaving Sampaoli unhappy with Sevilla’s failure to make their numerical advantage count.

“We had chances to take advantage of our numerical superiority,” the Coach said after the game.

“We could’ve won with tranquillity, but we gave impetus to our rivals so they could pull one back and we failed after that. This led us to draw the game.

“We were excited to win here. The victory was close, but we didn’t see it out and dropped two points.

“We failed to attack in the second half and the last 25 minutes. We didn’t go for the game at any point in the second half. It makes me angry that we didn’t win at Eibar.

“We came with the hope of winning. We knew that our opponents were very strong on their patch, and collectively they were very compact. We lacked aggression in the final third.

“The requirement of playing every three days can create inconvenience, and I thought they played with more freshness. I hope we can win the derby on Tuesday.”

Adil Rami and Daniel Carrico were also forced off with injuries to rub further salt in Sevilla’s wounds.

“The players will be evaluated in the next few hours, but I don’t think they’ll make Tuesday,” Sampaoli concluded.
