James: I always wanted Madrid

James Rodriguez insists he has “always wanted” Real Madrid after his goal during Sunday’s 2-0 win at Espanyol in La Liga.

James was handed a rare start in Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale’s absence against Espanyol and vindicated Zinedine Zidane’s faith with the opening goal just before half-time.

“I’ve not had a hard time, I’ve had the support of everyone, including the Coach,” the midfielder said after the game.

“I have a very good relationship with Zidane. We’re a close-knit team that always want to keep winning. I’m one more player and I’ve always wanted to be here.

“Until the 0-1, we were a little deep and they were playing well, having a good game, but despite this, it’s a fair result.”
