Tebas to call early election?

LaLiga president Javier Tebas is reportedly standing down from his role and calling for a re-election, in which he will put himself forward as a candidate.

Tebas has been LaLiga chief since 2013 and it is believed he will run to be re-elected at a time when no other outstanding candidates have garnered sufficient support to launch a major challenge.

The claims were made on the El Chiringuito show, saying Tebas wishes to renew his term as president with a fresh mandate in a move which is seen as cynical by some critics.

The 54-year-old has been no stranger to controversy over his term as president, often speaking out against other organisations including the RFEF, FIFA and UEFA, and upsetting fans of various clubs with scattered kick-off times.

Tebas is currently in India at the opening of a new LaLiga office, where plans are set to be announced to make Spanish football more accessible to Indian fans with altered match times.
