Foxes appoint Macia

Leicester City have appointed Eduardo Macia, formerly of Valencia and Betis, as the club's new Director of Sport.

Macia had previously spent time in Spain where he worked alongside Claudio Ranieri at Valencia, while he was most recently at Real Betis.

The 42-year-old spent two decades at the Mestalla as a player, sporting director and as a personal assistant to the club's president, before departing to join Liverpool under Rafael Benitez.

He was influential in the signings of Fernando Torres, Xabi Alonso and Javier Mascherano, amongst others.

Macia then had spells with Olympiacos and Fiorentina before returning to Spain with Betis, where he helped bring in Rafael van der Vaart and Juan Manuel Vargas, but departed after a year due to disagreements with the club's direction, and has since been replaced by Miguel Torrecilla.
