Sampaoli: Only Sevilla wanted win

Jorge Sampaoli accused Las Palmas of parking the bus in Saturday as Sevilla went on to claim a dramatic 2-1 victory.

Tana gave Las Palmas an early lead at Sanchez Pizjuan, until Pablo Sarabia’s 89th penalty was followed up by an injury-time winner from substitute Carlos Fernandez to maintain Sevilla’s unbeaten start to the La Liga season.

“The only team that sought [the victory] until the final whistle ended up winning,” the Coach said after the game.

“We gave away the first 30 minutes, our opponents took advantage and scored.

“From there, my team took over the game against opponents who went backwards, and we created many scoring chances and relentlessly pursued the victory until the last second.

“[On the penalty incident], it happened very quickly so I can’t make a value judgment about what the referee decided, plus I never speak about referees, regardless of whether I favour them or not.

“We were bad in the first half, except the last 15 minutes, and I misread the match.

“After 30 minutes of the first half, we were much more complete than against Espanyol because Las Palmas didn’t trouble us.

“[On Carlos Fernandez], with the feeling he has for the shirt, he showed a positive attitude and the final tribute was the winning goal. It was the reward for the team that looked for the opposite goal the entire time.

“I hope it’s not always the case because we’ll have little left in us, but it was an explosion of joy that made us happy because the fans understood that the team, despite some imperfections, always went forward and perhaps could’ve scored earlier.

“The team can have good, bad and normal games. The worst was against Villarreal because we didn’t seek [the win], but here we deserved to win the entire time and ended up winning.”
