Paul Scholes has stated that LaLiga is 'by far' the best league in the world in an extract taken from his new book.
Writing in Class of 92 – Out of our League – Our Journey Back to the Heart of the Game, Scholes lambasts the quality of the modern English top flight and points to European showings to show Spain's superiority.
"I think Spain's by far the best league," admits Scholes.
"The Spanish league is the best by far if you're judging on the European competitions.
"In the quarter finals of the Champions League and Europa League in 2015-16, they had six of the 16 teams. Nearly half of them. The Premier League just had two."
In an extract published in The Guardian, the 41-year-old pointed to Gareth Bale, Lionel Messi and Neymar as examples of quality players who 'you don't see in England any more'.
