Koke happy with Lopetegui ‘shift’

Koke admits “it’s been a shift” from Vicente del Bosque to Julen Lopetegui but believes Spain are reaping the rewards “on the pitch”.

Koke started under Lopetegui for the second straight game as Spain routed Liechtenstein 8-0 in their first 2018 World Cup qualifier on Monday, and the midfielder is happy with the changes made by the new man in charge.

“We notched up the pressure and pace, and the goals came,” he said after the game.

“It’s been a shift [from Del Bosque to Lopetegui] and there are times when things go better and go worse, but it’s going well and you can see it on the pitch.

“I see Costa in a good way and I’m happy for him. Hopefully he can be the Diego Costa from Atleti and continue to fascinate us. That’d be good for the team.

“I work to help my teammates, and if I go out of the starting line-up, I’ll still give everything.

“I feel good, now we must see if we can continue this good run.”
