Tebas: Marcelino devalued LaLiga

LaLiga chief Javier Tebas has criticised former Villarreal boss Marcelino for 'devaluing' the competition.

Tebas told Radio Marca that the former manager's attitude towards his side's final league game last season at Sporting Gijon – a match now under investigation -was unbefitting of the league and would not be tolerated in othersports.

"The league will be investigating this match," Tebas confirmed.

"I did not like what happened last year with Marcelino's comments, or his wife's, or the training that week.

"His behaviour was not correct and it would not have been allowed in sports like the NBA because it devalues the competition – every competitor must enter with intensity."

Marcelino was dismissed from his role in August in what the club has confirmed was due to his 'behaviour' for the encounter.

He had told the media that he hoped Sporting – for whom he previously played for and coached – stayed up ahead of the game.

His wife then made a social post to say 'job done!' after the encounter, which Sporting won 2-0.
